Poker Blinds and Timer Strategy

Poker Blind TimerWith the exception of cash games, poker blinds need to increase over the course of the game to ensure the game completes within a sensible time frame while also adding an extra level of skill and forced game play around the table.

(A poker blind is a forced bet made by the two players directly to the left of the dealer the first being the small blind and the second being the big blind. Blinds rotate around the table in the same way as the dealer button rotates around the table after each round of play.)

There are many websites, iphone apps and ipad apps that offer free poker blind clocks, all you need to decide is how long each round will last and what the blind increase structure will be.

Here at pokerdog we use the following times and blind structure for all of our home games:

  • Level 1 - Blinds: 50/100 - Time: 25 mins
  • Level 2 - Blinds: 100/200 - Time: 11 mins
  • Level 3 - Blinds: 150/300 - Time: 10 mins
  • Level 4 - Blinds: 200/400 - Time: 8 mins
  • Level 5 - Blinds: 300/600 - Time: 7 mins
  • Level 6 - Blinds: 400/800 - Time: 6 mins
  • Level 7 - Blinds: 500/1000 - Time: 6 mins
  • Level 8 - Blinds: 600/1200 - Time: 5 mins
  • Level 9 - Blinds: 800/1600 - Time: 5 mins
  • Level 10 - Blinds: 1000/2000 - Time: 5 mins
  • Level 11 - Blinds: 1500/3000 - Time: 4 mins
  • Level 12 - Blinds: 2000/4000 - Time: 4 mins
  • Level 13 - Blinds: 3000/6000 - Time: 4 mins
  • Level 14 - Blinds: 4000/8000 - Time: 4 mins
  • Level 15 - Blinds: 5000/10000 - Blind set until end of game
